Windows 10 has been launched in the UK this week, and the internet is abuzz over the introduction of the brand new operating system with its innovative new features and improvements. But how do you know whether you should take the plunge? Here are just some of the reasons why you should consider getting Windows 10.
If you already use Windows 8 or 7.1, it’s free to upgrade. If you dislike the new system, it’s also pretty easy to go back to your old one, as long as you haven’t deleted the folder containing your previous operating system.
It includes several new security features to help protect your device, such as Windows Hello, which uses your face or fingerprint to allow you to access your device, and Device Guard, which vets apps and software to ensure they are safe.
Windows 10 will be receiving support for much longer than Windows 7 or 8, which means it will continue to receive new features, functionality and security updates for longer.
The system will encompass all future Microsoft devices, including tablets, laptops, smartphones and desktop computers, adapting to the various different interfaces. This makes it a much more versatile option than previous operating systems.
You’ll be able to use the Cortana feature on your PC, laptop or Windows smartphone, allowing you to control your device and carry out internet searches using your voice.
The system includes a new Virtual Desktop feature, whether you can switch between different workspaces in the same way as if you had multiple screens. You will be able to “pin” different windows to the corners of the screen, or side by side, to work on two different projects at once.
