The importance of great content

October 2, 2014 by in category Content Marketing, News with 0 and 0

All websites deserve good content. Without content, a website definitely won’t leave a significant impression on its customer. Good content will promote a website and ensure that its goals, purposes and information are displayed clearly. On the other hand, bad content will simply drag a website down and will ensure that it does not get the views or attention it deserves.

What follows are a number of points we always consider when we are creating content:

  • Research. Generic content is the bane of websites. If you fill your website full of generic writing that has been regurgitated countless times, nobody is going to want to read it. There is also the added problem of duplicated content: if your site is filled with generic text, or text which has already been used, you run the risk of getting hunted down by Googlebot and having the site sent down the rankings. Original text is important not only to keep readers interested, but also for SEO reasons.
  • Keep to the topic at hand. When a business has several keywords, it may be tempting to do something on one keyword, tie it into another keyword, explore a third keyword, but all that occurs following this is a jumbled mess of writing. By focusing on one topic, your content will be more succinct, more relevant and easier to read – vital qualities for a website, where competition for visitors and readers is high.
  • Answer questions that people may have. Many people visit websites to discover information about the company or the products that they sell. Always keep in mind the questions that people will be asking when they’re visiting the site: who is the company? What do they do? What services do they provide? These are questions that you need to answer when you’re writing content. They should be implemented naturally and fit with the overall flow of the article.
  • Spelling, grammar and language. Always remember to check your content for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Though some mistakes are easy to miss, not knowing the differences between “there”, “their” and “they’re” will undermine your credibility as a writer significantly, and badly spelled content will create an unprofessional image for your business.
  • Tell the truth. It may seem like a good idea to hype up the company, but you should focus on the truth. Keeping the text interesting and telling the truth about the company works to your favour a lot better than simply applying hyperbole.
  • Start strong, end strong. If your website ends up with a high ranking on major search engines such as Google, your content will be the first thing that a new visitor will read. If it doesn’t snatch a visitor’s attention immediately, they will simply look past it. You need to have an eye-catching title and succinct content that captures people’s attention immediately and lets them know what your company is all about. Likewise, you should always wrap up your article as comprehensively as possible, finishing strong and ensuring that the reader’s questions have been answered.
