Most startups are sticking with .com

However, a new study by Clutch, the American research and marketing firm, has revealed that 88% of new startup businesses have .com domain names. This shows that traditional domains still rule, and although it’s exciting to see the possibilities of new domain extensions, it seems that we’ll still be seeing plenty of new .com domains emerging for a while yet.

The research also showed that many companies had “invented” domain names, which may be a result of the high demand for .com domains and the necessity of coming up with original ones which have not already been taken. Although originality is important, it is also crucial not to go too obscure with your domain, otherwise you may find yourself with lower numbers of visitors than you should be getting. Short, concise, memorable domains which relate to your company or a relevant keyword are the way to go.
